Choosing the Best Criminal Lawyer in New Jersey for Your Case

Criminal cases always cause distress for those who are involved. It is a good idea to contact a criminal defense attorney for help.

To give you an idea who to contact in New Jersey for legal help, here are some guidelines:

1. Do these lawyers have expertise in the field of criminal law?

Criminal cases are different and more complex than civil cases and corporate cases. Very few lawyers have expertise in all areas. Most lawyers specialize in specific areas of the law. Try to find the one who is a real expert in criminal law.

2.  Do these lawyers have a winning record?

The size of the law firm is not important. Your only concern should be the lawyer who is going to represent you. How many cases has the lawyer won? Does the lawyer have a winning record? These are important questions to answer before hiring a lawyer.

3. How long has the lawyer been a NJ criminal defense lawyer?

Experience counts. How long has this lawyer worked in criminal defense? If the lawyer you are choosing has handled one or two cases, then they might not have the experience you need. However, if a lawyer is good, inexperience might not be an issue. If the case is complex, then you might want a more experienced lawyer.

4.  Has the NJ criminal defense lawyer won a similar case?

How much experience does the lawyer have with the type of charges you are facing? There are cases that seem similar to other cases, but they are different.  It is good to try to find a lawyer who has handled a case similar to yours.

5.  Is the NJ criminal defense lawyer knowledgeable with the case and the law?

The criminal defense lawyer who is going to handle your case should be well aware of the facts. The lawyer should also be aware of laws that can help your case.
